This is a great book, spelled out in typical Dr.
Phil fashion: straight to the point without all the
psychological mumbo-jumbo. It is a must read
if your relationship is troubled. If you have
a wonderful, stable relationship, there are still
things to be learned from this book. You will
find out so much about yourself, your partner, and
how relationships work.

very powerful and life changing. It's moving

This book gives a true depiction of the differences
between the sexes and in turn helps us to better
understand each other. It is a great handbook
for developing deeper, more satisfying relationships
with our partners.

What an awesome book! While this is a short
read, it will have a long living effect on how you
view your life. It will uplift you and
encourage you to reach your full potential.
The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue
Monk Kidd (2002)
This is a heart-warming tale of Lily Owens. A
little girl living on a peach farm in South Carolina
struggling with a devastating memory of the day her
mother was killed. It is a story that will
have you laughing one minute, crying the next.
It is filled with character and charm and
beautifully written. It is a must read for all
of those who struggle with not having a mom in their
lives. It will leave you with such powerful
feelings you better get out the Kleenex!
Good in Bed, by
Jennifer Weiner, (2002)
This is a story of one women's struggle with coming
to terms with her plus size. It is hilarious,
wacky and at the same time uplifting. It is a
must read for all of those who struggle with their
own body image. There is a great message
inside these pages.
Running with
Scissors, by Augusten Burroughs (2003)
This is the true story of Augusten Burroughs, whose
mother is a delusional poet who gives him away to be
raised by her psychiatrist, a lunatic himself.
It is bizarre, engrossing, hilarious, and downright
outrageous. It is a true survival story over
dysfunction and abuse. It's captivating and
shows one man's ability to see humor in the midst of
sadness.
Dry, by Augusten
Burroughs, (2003) This is sort
of a continuation of his first memoir, Running with
Scissors. Dry begins with Augusten in his
early 20's dealing with the effects of alcoholism.
This gives a very honest view of addition and the
people who struggle with them. It is a story
about conquering the demons of addictions.
Most of all, it is a story of hope.
I Know This Much is
True, by Wally Lamb (1999)
This is a story about twins, one of which suffers
from schizophrenia. Dominick, the normal one,
struggles with both loving and resenting his
brother. It is lengthy and complex, but well
worth the read. It takes you through the ups
and downs, twists and turns of Dominick's struggles
until in the end you are left with a great message
about life.
Tuesdays with Morrie:
An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life's Greatest Lesson,
by Mitch Albom (2002, Paperback)
The writer, Mitch Albom, was given the opportunity
to spend several months with professor, Morrie
Schwartz during his final year of life. In the
teachings that follow, we will be left learning more
about living and less about dying.
The Five People You
Meet in Heaven, by Mitch Albom, (2003)
This is the story of Eddie, an old man who feels he
has lived an uninspiring life fixing rides at an
amusement park. The day of his 83rd birthday,
there is a tragic accident where he dies. His
life is then explained by five people he meets in
heaven. It is a short, easy to read story, and one that shows how
significant all of our lives are and the connection
we have to each other.
